I’ve been the subject of police harrassment.

But I’ve never had to fear for my life because of the color of my skin.

And white people who grew up in middle-class comfort shouldn’t have anything to say about how poor black people act. Especially when these people feel they’re being exterminated by a system that already has the deck stacked against them.

So just shut your damn mouth.

That is true, but until they release the footage or say that he pointed it at officers, it still reads like the typical “he was a threat because he had a gun” argument which is bullshit.

Yes, we have to wait and see. Having a holstered gun in an open carry state is one thing, having a gun out of the holster is another, and pointing the gun at someone is a third.

That’s literally the concept of “privilege.” Unfortunately, some people get butthurt over that phrase because they are under the impression that it means no white person has ever faced hardship.

From a legal standpoint in the holster you are clear, once it comes out you open yourself up to brandishing, I’m not sure if it falls in a separate area if you are aiming at someone though.

I know the feels. I'm from Greensboro, still have lots of interwebs friends in the area who feel the need to share their middle class conservative hot takes. I'm like, dude, just shut up. You are neither poor nor black. No one should feel like if I don't comply with police, vis a vis some sort of gestapo, that being killed is a consequence.

I think a lot of it comes down to a lack of knowledge. Structural racism isn’t taught in schools, and I think a lot of people who get offended at the idea of white privilege think that criticizing it is equivalent to saying White people = BAD

Little anecdote from me.

I was pulled over for going 12 mph around the corner from a school and a hospital the other day by a motorcycle cop in an upper class area. I figured it was going to be a guaranteed ticket. Cop asks for my license and registration, then if there are any weapons on the car. I tell him there’s a handgun in the center console (next to me). He says, ok don’t open the center console. Before I can even hand him my registration, he tells me to slow down, and lets me go with a verbal warning. Doesn’t even walk back to his bike to run my license. No way is that happening if I’m 1) not white or 2) not in a newer car. I told the guy I had a concealed weapon in the car, and he didn’t so much as run my license to make sure I wasn’t a felon/had warrants.

I grew up middle class, but spent weekends with my mom who lived in Section 8 housing. We were harassed by cops late at night once when I was about nine years old. Two cops came into my mom’s apartment late at night asking questions about something that had happened at the complex. They separated my siblings and I (seven year old brother and five year old sister) from our mom in a separate room. One officer questioned us while another questioned my mom. I remember them yelling at my mom in the other room while the other officer asked us questions about her.

People who don’t think that there are total pieces of shit working as cops have probably never lived life in the bottom rungs of society. I’ve experienced both and am glad I was given the insight to see that there are most definitely two different sets of rules in our society.
